GreenBiz on Drupal

A sustainable-business news platform, moved from Drupal 7 to 8 in two stages

Role
Architect and backend lead, at Kalamuna
What it ran on
Drupal 7 → 8, Pantheon

The brief

GreenBiz was a US media platform about sustainable business, with over 34,000 articles on its main site and dozens of microsites next to it, its event sites among them. Kalamuna, the US agency I worked for on contract, was asked to redesign it and move it off Drupal 7 onto Drupal 8. My part was the architecture and the backend.

What I did

I ran the migration in two stages. The main site went first, then the event microsites, rebuilt on Drupal 8 as one multisite. After that I maintained the code written for the platform, from the event features to sponsorship. During the pandemic its conferences went online, and our team reshaped the platform around virtual events, with the main site handling promotion and registration while the events themselves ran on Hopin. In the same period, alongside a major redesign, our team made the platform faster and more stable.

What it ran on

What came of it

Pantheon reported 10x event registrations in its case study of this work. That case study is no longer online, so the source below is Pantheon's product announcement that mentions the work. GreenBiz has since become Trellis Group and moved platforms, so this is past work.
